TUCSON, ARIZ.—The Hamline University baseball team opened their spring trip with a pair of losses that included a 9-3 decision to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and a 10-4 score to NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State in Tucson, Arizona on Sunday.
The Pipers fall to 5-6 with the losses.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 9, Hamline 3
A pair of home runs from the Stags highlighted their 8-0 lead through 4 1/2 innings before Hamline scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth. RBI-singles from Caden Erickson and Mac Enlow, as well as a Tyler Johnson sacrifice fly cut Hamline's deficit to 8-3.Â
A seventh-inning home run from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sealed them a 9-3 win. The Pipers had 10 hits, while the Stags had 11.Â
Colin Schuetz went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and one run scored for Hamline, while Max Gerstner's 2-for-4 outing included one walk and one run scored. Enlow notched a 2-for-5 outing.
Hamline utilized six pitchers in the contest.Â
Southwest Minnesota State 10, Hamline 4
The Mustangs, who led from start-to-finish, doubled the Pipers in hits by a 16-8 margin.Â
Tyler Johnson paced Hamline with a 2-for-4 outing that included one RBI, while Schuetz continued his stellar day with a 2-for-5 performance. Max Gerstner, Jack Rheineck, Braeden Bourne, and Cade McGraw also had hits for the Pipers.
Hamline utilized five pitchers throughout the contest.
The Pipers will play a pair of seven-inning games against Crown in Tucson, Arizona on Tuesday, March 12 at 10 a.m. (PT).
