Hamline's baseball team went toe-to-toe with Crown College in a doubleheader played on Tuesday, March 12th in Tucson, Arizona, ultimately splitting the series.
The first game was a high-scoring affair. Crown struck first, taking a 2-0 lead early. The Pipers responded with three runs in the top of the 2nd inning, but Crown answered back with a five-run rally in the bottom half to grab a 7-3 advantage. Despite 4 Hamline runs in the top of the 4th, Crown closed with a single run in the 8th inning for the win. Tyler Johnson continued his hot start to the year going 3 for 5 with 6 RBI and a run scored.
The second game saw a different script unfold. Hamline jumped out to an early lead, scoring 9 unanswered runs in the first 3 innings. Crown managed to put a couple of runs on the board in the later innings, but it wasn't enough. Hamline cruised to a 9-2 victory, earning a split for the day. Caden Erickson led the Pipers going 4 for 5 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Xavier Bembnister and Josh Cary (W) combined to give up just 6 hits in the win.
The Pipers are back tomorrow for a single game against Wesleyan at 9:30AM (PT).
