SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team salvaged a Sunday split at St. Catherine (DH), as they lost game one 11-3 (5 Innings) and won game two 12-4.
The Pipers move to 13-11, 3-7 MIAC, while the Wildcats end the day 11-18, 5-7 MIAC.
St. Catherine 11, Hamline 3 (5 Innings) (Game One)
All three Piper runs occurred in the first inning. Jenna Rubbelke and Elena Martinez each singled before Josephine Cariveau reached on an error to load the bases. Rubbelke scored on Savannah Johnson's groundout, Martinez made the score 2-0 courtesy of Gabby Tuhy's sacrifice fly before Cariveau pushed Hamline's lead to 3-0 off Abbey Herbert's single.
The Wildcats' 11 unanswered runs occurred in each inning, which secured them an 11-3 win.
Eight-of-nine individuals in Hamline's starting lineup recorded one hit.
Gracie Bond and Montana Miller saw time in the pitching circle for the Pipers.
Hamline 12, St. Catherine 4 (Game Two)
Hamline, who never trailed in the contest, carried a slim 3-2 advantage going into the fifth inning. A cushion was built in the fifth and seventh innings, where they combined for nine hits, nine runs, and capitalized on three Wildcat errors en route to a 12-4 victory.
All nine Pipers recorded at least one hit. Gabby Tuhy went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and one RBI. Maddie Johnson and Mckenna Johnson each had three hits. Mikenna drove in two runs, while Maddie scored two. Savannah Johnson's 2-for-5 performance included a double, two runs, and two RBI. Lainey Wier, who was 1-for-2, also drove in a pair of runs.
Both teams combined for 29 hits, 17 belonged to the Pipers.
Hamline starting pitcher Natalee Boelk allowed 12 hits and just four hits in a complete-game win.
The Pipers will travel to St. Scholastica (DH) on Wednesday, April 17 for a 3:30 p.m. start.
