DULUTH, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team split a pair of games at St. Scholastica (DH) on Wednesday afternoon, winning game one 6-0 before dropping game two 5-1.
The Pipers move to 14-12, 4-8 MIAC, while the Saints end the day 4-22, 1-11 MIAC.
Hamline 6, St. Scholastica 0 (Game One)
Hamline broke a 0-0 tie with a two-run fourth inning, which ignited an offense that scored in each of the final four frames to secure a 6-0 victory.
Pipers starting pitcher Gracie Bond allowed just three hits and notched two strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.
Maddie Johnson and Abbey Herbert each went 2-for-3, while Elena Martinez turned in a 2-for-4 performance. The game's only extra-base hit belonged to Josephine Cariveau, whose RBI-double highlighted a 1-for-4 outing. Tuhy drove in a run off a sacrifice bunt. A bases loaded single from Mikenna Johnson also resulted in a run. Savannah Johnson had a hit and scored a pair of runs for the Pipers, who out hit St. Scholastica 11-3.
St. Scholastica 5, Hamline 1 (Game Two)
The Saints picked up their first MIAC win of the season in game two, where they out hit the Pipers 6-4. Savannah Johnson and Gabby Tuhy each went 1-for-3 with a double while Jenna Rubbelke and Lainey Wier also recorded a hit for the Hamline offense.Â
Pipers starting pitcher Natalee Boelk allowed six hits and five runs in a complete-game pitching effort. Her counterpart Ashley Matejka allowed just four hits and one run over seven innings in a winning decision.
The Pipers will travel to St. Olaf (DH) on Saturday, April 20. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
