NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team dropped a pair of games at St. Olaf (DH) by scores of 12-1 (5 Innings) and 7-5 on Saturday afternoon.
The Pipers fall to 14-14, 4-10 MIAC, while the Oles improve to 18-12, 9-5 MIAC.
St. Olaf 12, Hamline 1 (5 Innings) (Game One)
Jenna Rubbelke and Elena Martinez led off the game with a single and walk, respectively. The duo moved to second and third base off Josephine Cariveau's sacrifice bunt, before Rubbelke scored on a fielding error to give Hamline a 1-0 lead.
The Oles scored 12 unanswered runs throughout the game to secure a 12-1 victory.
Rubbelke, Martinez, Abbey Herbert, and Maddie Johnson each had a hit for Hamline, who were outdone in that category by St. Olaf 15-4.
All nine Ole starters recorded a hit, led by Amelia Christenson's 3-for-3 game that included two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored.
Gracie Bond and Montana Miller each pitched two innings for Hamline. Their counterpart Jaelyn Orth allowed just four hits, one run, and notched three strikeouts in a complete-game win for St. Olaf.
St. Olaf 7, Hamline 5 (Game Two)
The Pipers exploited the wild pitch in the early going.
The second inning saw Abigail Chamernick single, move to second base on Lainey Wier's groundout, and made her way home on two wild pitches. The third inning saw Jenna Rubbelke single, move to second and third via the wild pitch, and score off Elena Martinez's single.
Despite capitalizing on those mishaps, it wasn't enough as Hamline found themselves down 7-2 thanks to three Ole home runs prior to the fifth inning, where they inched their way back within striking distance.
Maddie Johnson's single and Martinez's double put runners on base for Josephine Cariveau's three-run home run that narrowed St. Olaf's lead to 7-5. That proved to be the game's final run.
Elena Martinez was the lone multi-hit Piper, going 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored. Cariveau's three-run home run made up her 1-for-4 outing.
Seven Hamline starters recorded a hit, and were outdone by the Oles in that category 10-9.
Natalee Boelk pitched a complete game for the Pipers.
The Pipers will travel to Saint Benedict (DH) on Tuesday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m.
