MANKATO, MINN.—The Hamline University men's tennis team concluded their 2023-24 season with 8-1 and 7-2 victories at Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pipers finish 2023-24 with a 14-7 record, their best season since their 18-7 campaign in 2005-06.
"The men ended up playing a doubleheader today and sweeping both ends of it," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "A fond farewell to our beloved senior captain Isaac Hultberg."
Hamline 8, Bethany Lutheran 1 (Match 1)
The Pipers swept doubles with wins from Isaac Hultberg/Elijah Krause 8-3, and 8-0 shutouts courtesy of Rumeal Setts/Tyler Rousslang and Surprise Taylor/Elden Lee.
The bottom five singles matches belonged to the Pipers, led by an 8-1 win from Hultberg at No. 2. Tyler Rousslang prevailed with an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 singles, while Keegan Terrone was victorious 8-3 at No. 4. Taylor won 8-1 at No. 5, while Smith took care of business 8-2 at No. 6 singles.
Hamline 7, Bethany Lutheran 2 (Match Two)
It was another doubles sweep for Hamline courtesy of Rumeal Setts/Tyler Rousslang 8-2 at No. 1, Elden Lee/Surprise Taylor 8-4 at No. 2, and Tate Johanning/Connor Donley 8-2 at No. 3.
The middle of Hamline's singles lineup carried them, as they got 8-0 wins from Tyler Rousslang at No. 2, Elijah Krause at No. 3, and Connor Donley at No. 5. Liam Smith cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 4 singles.
