SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team hosted Carleton (DH) for their final home games of the 2024 season at Meredith Field on Saturday. The Pipers snapped a five-game losing skid with a 5-2 victory in game one, followed by a 6-0 loss in game two.
Hamline moves to 15-17, 5-13 MIAC, while Carleton ends the day 13-19, 4-14 MIAC.
Hamline 5, Carleton 2 (Game One)
Jenna Rubbelke led off the game with a double before she reached third base on a wild pitch. Elena Martinez walked to put runners on the corners before Rubbelke gave the Pipers a 1-0 lead when Gabby Tuhy reached on an error. Martinez moved to third base off Savannah Johnson's sacrifice bunt, and widened Hamline's lead to 2-0 off Abbey Herbert's groundout.
The Pipers added two more runs in the second frame, where Mikenna Johnson and Abigail Chamernick kicked things off with back-to-back singles. Maddie Johnson moved them to second and third with a sacrifice bunt, before Mikenna Johnson scored off Rubbelke's sacrifice fly to widen the margin to 3-0. Chamernick reached third base off Marintez's single, and stole home to make the score 4-0.
The Knights combined for six hits in the fifth and sixth innings. It resulted in a run in each frame that cut their deficit in half at 4-2.
The sixth inning saw Savannah Johnson and Madisen Borek each notch a single. Johnson later scored on a Knights throwing error, which widened the score to 5-2.
Rubbelke went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, an RBI, and one run scored. Carleton out hit Hamline 11-8.
The Knights got 2-for-4 performances from Helen Moses, Bryanna Schaffer, and Adrianna Wiggins.
Gracie Bond allowed nine hits, two runs, two walks, and notched two strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings, before Montana Miller allowed two hits in a 1 1/3-inning save.
Carleton 6, Hamline 0 (Game Two)
A five-run sixth inning, followed by one more in the seventh secured Carleton a 6-0 victory.
The Pipers mustered just four hits in the contest. Gabby Tuhy went 2-for-3, while Jenna Rubbelke and Madisen Borek each contributed a hit.
Natalee Boelk allowed 10 hits and five runs over six innings of work in the circle before Montana Miller threw the final frame, where she surrendered three hits and one run.
The Knights finished with 13 hits, led by a 3-for-4 outing from Moses Smith.
Hamline will travel to Saint Mary's (Minn.) (DH) tomorrow, Sunday, April 28. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
