Pipers Drop Two to Gusties

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team dropped a pair of games to Gustavus Adolphus (DH) by scores of 6-2 and 10-3 at Meredith Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Pipers fall to 10-8, 0-4 MIAC, while the Gusties improve to 10-12, 4-0 MIAC.

Gustavus 6, Hamline 2 (Game One)

Josephine Cariveau, who had a hand in both Hamline runs, led the way with a 2-for-3 outing that included one double, one RBI and one run scored. Her third-inning single that scored Mikenna Johnson, who led off with a single, narrowed Hamline's deficit to 3-1.

Cariveau led off the fifth inning with a double before she advanced to third on a wild pitch, and narrowed Gustavus's lead to 5-2 off Gabby Tuhy's single.

Tuhy went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Johnson and Rubbelke each had one hit.

Gracie Bond allowed nine hits and five runs over five innings pitched for the Pipers, before Montana Miller surrendered two hits and one run over the final two frames.

Gustavus 10, Hamline 3 (Game Two)

Cariveau continued her stellar day with a 3-for-4 performance that engineered a Piper offense that accumulated nine hits, all singles. But Gustavus pounded 16 hits, which included three triples and two doubles. The extra base hits, along with four-run performances in the first and fifth innings propelled Gustavus to a 10-3 victory.

Tuhy and Abbey Herbert each went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Natalee Boelk and Miller each saw pitching time for Hamline.

The Pipers will host Macalester (DH) at Meredith Field on Tuesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
