Pipers Notch Back-to-Back 3-0 Sweeps of Alverno and Maranatha Baptist

RIPON, WIS.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team registered back-to-back 3-0 victories over Alverno and Maranatha Baptist on day one of the Ripon Tournament on Friday evening.

The Pipers move to 4-6 following the sweep.

Hamline 3, Alverno 0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-13)

The service line was good to Hamline, who accumulated 18 aces. It's the most aces achieved by the Pipers in a single game over the past 13 seasons. Grace Bathurst paced Hamline with six service aces, and was efficient at the net with a team-leading 10 kills on just 14 total attacks en route to a .714 hitting mark.

Jenna Rubbelke added to her career-leading service ace total with five in this match, as well as a team-high 10 digs. Also contributing at the service line was Claire Siems, who finished with four aces.

Elizabeth Lopata finished her 2024 debut with seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Running the offense was Kaitlyn Kotek, who had 20 assists followed by 11 from Cameryn Sand.

The Pipers finished with a season-high .298 hitting percentage, and 18 aces.

Rolin West paced Alverno with 11 kills and 12 digs.

Hamline 3, Maranatha Baptist 0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-10)

Sixteen individuals saw playing time for Hamline, who held Maranatha Baptist to just 12 kills and a .093 attack percentage. The Pipers returned the favor with 40 kills, a .250 hitting percentage, and 15 service aces.

Hamline got kills from 10 individuals, led by nine from Riley Melby, who hit .316. It was another day at the office for Rubbelke, who led the way with five aces and 14 digs. Kaitlyn Kotek added four aces to go with a team-high 25 assists and two assisted blocks.

Grace Tesmer had eight kills, followed by seven from Lauren Wilborn. 

The Pipers will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 14 on day two of the Ripon Tournament against Carroll (Wis.) at 11 a.m., and Ripon at 3 p.m.
