The Pipers move to 1-1, while the Cougars fall to 0-2.
Hamline 5, Minnesota Morris 1
Their 38 shots was the most since September 4, 2018, when they fired 43 ironically at Minnesota Morris, who recorded just four in this contest.
Addyson Barrett and Ellie Nhean each recorded their first collegiate goals in the 14th and 29th minutes, respectively, which gave Hamline a 2-0 lead. The Pipers took that advantage to halftime, where they out shot the Cougars 17-1.
It took the Pipers just four minutes into the second half to notch a goal courtesy of Maya Dempsey's tally that widened her team's lead to 3-0 in the 49th minute. The next shot found the back of the net in the 57th minute, but it was Morris's Bella Toth, which narrowed her team's deficit to 3-1.
Hamline out shot Morris 17-2 from that point forward, which included a goal from Christin Broyles in the 70th minutes, and Dempsey's second goal of the game in the 85th minute that made the score 5-1.
Dempsey, who also recorded an assist on Barrett's goal, finished with a career-high five points and her second career two-goal game.
Hamline goalkeeper Isabella Jensen made no saves in the first half, before Cate Toal stopped two shots in the second half for Hamline. CJ Frear-Boerner made 16 saves between the pipes for Morris.
The Pipers will host UW-Eau Claire at Pat Paterson Field on Thursday, September 5 at 4 p.m.
