Pipers Off to Best Start in 18 Years Following 2-0 Shutout of Beavers

STORM LAKE, IOWA—The Hamline University men's soccer team is off to their best start in 18 seasons following their 2-0 victory at Buena Vista on Sunday night.

The Pipers improve to 5-0 for the first time since the 2006 season, and hand the Beavers their first loss as they fall to 3-1.

Freshman Cris Corrales netted both Hamline goals within 1:04 of each other in the 54th and 55th minutes to seal a 2-0 victory. Ryder Tomlinson Sterud assisted on the first tally before Jonathan Bayer was credited with an assist on the second goal, which was Corrales's third of the season.

Both teams combined for just 14 shots in the contest, 11 of them belonged to the Pipers while the Beavers fired three.

Maxim Henderson made one save in his second complete-game shutout in net, as well as Hamline's fourth clean sheet of the season. Zachary Sigler also stopped just one shot between the pipes for Buena Vista.

The Pipers will host UW-Stevens Point, who are in their first year as a varsity program, at Pat Paterson Field on Tuesday, September 10 at 4 p.m.
