SAINT PAUL, MINN.--Augsburg defeated the Hamline University men's hockey team 5-1 at TRIA Rink on Friday.
The Pipers, who had the upper hand in shots 49-31, fall to 6-12-0, 4-5 MIAC, while the Auggies improve to 6-11-1, 2-6-1 MIAC.
Augsburg 5, Hamline 1
The first period began with Augsburg's Landon Parker scoring the first goal at 00:35, assisted by Zachary Reim and Duke Kiffin. The Auggies maintained offensive pressure throughout the period, with Graham Harris extending their lead to 2-0 with a goal at 10:38, assisted by Parker Jasper. Despite Hamline's efforts, including a power play following a roughing penalty against Gunnar Williams, they were unable to score. Williams returned from his penalty to score Augsburg's third goal at 16:46, assisted by Cade Stibbe, concluding the period with a 3-0 lead.
The second period began with Augsburg applying early pressure with consecutive shots from Peyton Hanson and Landon Parker, both saved by Hamline's
Maximillian Haselbacher. Nikolai Haviar capitalized on a power-play opportunity, scoring at 6:27 with assists from
Nikolai Dulak, narrowing the score to 3-1. However, the Auggies responded with two even-strength goals, the first by Graham Harris at 15:15 and the second by Landon Parker at 16:17, extending their lead to 5-1.
The third period began with a faceoff won by Augsburg's Landon Parker but was quickly followed by a win for
Brandon McNamara just eight seconds later. Despite multiple attempts from both teams, including several missed shots by Daniel Chladek and saves by Hamline's
Trevor Wong, neither team managed to score. Blaine Warnert received a two-minute penalty for high-sticking at 18:54, leading to a power play for the Pipers, but they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The period ended with a series of missed shots from Hamline, a penalty on Augsburg's Jake Hale for roughing, and no change in the score, maintaining their lead with a final score of 5-1.
Brandon McNamara was a standout player for Hamline, leading the team with a 70% faceoff win percentage.Â
Nicolas Haviar contributed offensively with one goal and one power play goal, making him a crucial part of the team's scoring efforts.
Maximillian Haselbacher was active between the pipes, with 17 saves in his start, despite facing a challenging game. Additionally,
Trevor Wong recorded nine saves in his appearance.
Gunnar Williams had a notable performance with one goal and a plus-minus rating of plus three, contributing significantly to the team's efforts. Landon Parker led the team with two goals and added to his offensive impact with five shots on goal. Graham Harris also scored two goals, including the game-winner. Goalie Carsen Stokes made a significant contribution defensively with 48 saves, allowing only one goal.
The Pipers will travel to Augsburg tomorrow, Saturday, January 25 for a 7 p.m. game.
