SAINT PAUL, MINN.--On Saturday, the Hamline University women's hockey team were victim of three unanswered goals in 4-3 OT loss to No. 8 Augsburg at TRIA Rink.
The Pipers fall to 10-7-0, 5-5 MIAC, while the nationally-ranked Auggies improve to 14-2-1, 9-1-0 MIAC.
Augsburg 4, Hamline 3 OT
The first period began with an early goal by the Piper's
Kylie Huseth at 0:27, assisted by
Haley Eder-Zdechlik, putting them in the lead 1-0. Augsburg responded with persistent offensive efforts, resulting in Nora Stepan scoring a power-play goal at 8:34, assisted by Tenley Stewart, to equalize the score 1-1. The Pipers' offensive pressure was evident with multiple shot attempts, but Augsburg's goalie, Kayla Simonson, made several key saves to maintain the tie. Both teams committed penalties, with Hamline's
Averie Martin and Augsburg's Mei Diesing each serving two minutes, but no further goals were scored by the end of the frame.
The second period saw Hamline take control with two key goals to extend their lead over Augsburg.
Ashlyn Abrahamson scored at 8:04, assisted by
Iyla Ryskamp, marking her eighth goal of the season and bringing the score to 2-1. Shortly after,
Abigail Chamernick capitalized on a power play opportunity at 12:08, with assists from
Ashlyn Abrahamson and
Emme Nelson, pushing the lead to 3-1. Augsburg struggled to convert their attempts, with several shots saved by
Kendra Nordick and blocked by Hamline defenders.
The third period began with Hamline winning the initial faceoff, but Augsburg quickly capitalized on a power-play opportunity, with Nora Stepan scoring at 1:29 to narrow the game to 3-2. The period saw a series of missed and blocked shots from both teams, with Hamline's
Abigail Chamernick and
Annabel Mehta each having multiple unsuccessful attempts on goal. Augsburg continued to pressure and eventually broke through with a goal by Ruby Eskin at 17:18, assisted by Stepan, bringing the score to 3-3. Despite numerous attempts from both sides, the period ended without further scoring, leaving the game tied.
The overtime period began with Augsburg winning the faceoff between Emily Cronkhite and
Iyla Ryskamp. Early in the period, Ryskamp and Eder-Zdechlik both attempted shots at 00:30, but Augsburg's Kayla Simonson saved both. Augsburg's Elizabeth Fagerlind then missed a shot at 01:01, saved by Hamline's
Kendra Nordick. The game concluded with Augsburg's Nora Stepan scoring the game-winning goal at 01:38, completing a hat trick and securing the 4-3 overtime victory for the Auggies.

Emma Abrahamson had a notable faceoff win percentage of 60, winning three out of five attempts. Goalie Kayla Simonson made a significant impact with 36 saves in her game, despite allowing three goals.
