ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Hamline University soccer team (3-4-4, 1-3-0) was defeated 2-0 by St. Catherine University (9-1-0, 4-0-0) at Paterson Field on Sunday afternoon.
The first half began with
Isabella Jensen and Brianna Valdez in goal for the Pipers and St. Catherine, respectively. Hamline's
Elysse Tanaka committed two early fouls, setting a physical tone for the match. St. Catherine's Bella Meier capitalized on a penalty opportunity, scoring in the 12th minute to give her team a 1-0 lead. Hamline's
Avery Miller and
Addyson Barrett both attempted to level the score early, but their shots were either saved or off-target. St. Catherine maintained pressure throughout the half, with Meier and Emily Olson frequently testing the Pipers' defense, but goalkeeper
Sienna Parsons recorded multiple saves to keep the deficit to one. The first half concluded with St. Catherine leading 1-0.
St. Catherine extended their lead early in the second half with a goal from Ayah Makled in the 48th minute, bringing the score to 2-0. Hamline's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Jensen, managed a crucial save against an initial shot by Emily Henaman in the 47th minute.
Parsons recorded seven saves in her 41 minutes of play, showcasing her defensive contribution. Jensen added a save during her 49 minutes in goal, facing eight shots and allowing one goal.
