ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline was narrowly defeated by Macalester 1-0 on Saturday at Pat Paterson Field.
The opening half featured a defensive standoff between Hamline and Macalester, resulting in a scoreless draw. Macalester's attack was persistent, taking multiple shots on goal, including attempts by Adi Nhouyvanisvong and Evelyn Savoie, but all were saved by the Pipers' goalkeeper
Maddox Fergus. Fergus made key saves at the 3rd and 12th minutes to keep the game level. Hamline's
Elysse Tanaka took a notable shot in the 9th minute, but it missed the target. Both teams had opportunities from corner kicks, but neither side capitalized on these set pieces, concluding the half without a goal.
The second half between the Pipers and Macalester saw a shift in momentum with Macalester seizing control. Despite several fouls by both teams, it was Macalester's Julia Hanson who found the back of the net in the 85th minute, assisted by Erica Hamilton, breaking the deadlock. Hamline had their chances, notably a shot by
Alexi Schneider in the 71st minute that went wide right. Hamline's defense, anchored by Fergus, managed to save a shot from Ella Wu-Ancipink, but ultimately couldn't prevent Hanson's decisive goal.
Fergus recorded five saves against nine shots faced, conceding only one goal in the match. Schneider managed to take one shot during the game, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Tanaka also attempted one shot, aiming to break through the opponent's defense.
The Pipers will conclude their season at home next Saturday, November 1st against the College of Saint Benedict with a 3:30 PM kickoff.
