ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Hamline University soccer team fell 1-0 to Saint John's University on Saturday at Pat Paterson Field, despite a strong defensive effort with goalkeeper recording three saves.

Alec Setterberg recorded three saves in the match, facing a total of 12 shots and allowing one goal. Drew Axel contributed one shot on goal, showcasing his involvement in the offensive play. Luis Mancilla attempted to create scoring opportunities, leading the team with two shots.

The first half began with Saint John's gaining early momentum, as Ronan O'Connor scored in the 4th minute with an assist from Lisle Cherwien. Hamline's Setterberg made critical saves, notably stopping shots in the 26th and 33rd minutes to keep the deficit manageable. Axel managed a shot on goal for the Pipers in the 39th minute, but it was saved by Cole Hanson. The period concluded with Hamline trailing 1-0.

The second half began with the visitors pressing forward early, as Luke Madden attempted two shots within the opening minutes. Hamline responded by creating opportunities of their own, highlighted by Johanso Camacho's shot following a corner kick in the 54th minute. Despite maintaining pressure, the attempts by Mancilla and Clarence Weah did not find the net.

As the half progressed, Hamline continued to press, with Setterberg making a crucial save in the 81st minute to keep the score close. Christopher Lopez Salvador also contributed with a shot in the 68th minute, but Saint John's held their defense. The half concluded without either team altering the scoreline, ending with a 1-0 advantage for the visitors.
