SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (1-0, 0-0 MIAC) defeated the University of Northwestern – St. Paul (0-2, 0-0 UMAC), 87-48, capitalizing on 22 steals and 44 points off turnovers.
The game commenced with Northwestern-St. Paul taking an early 3-0 lead as Emma Korinek sank a three-pointer at 9:30. Hamline responded quickly, with
Evelyn Wiltrout scoring a layup to put them on the board at 6:58, and later adding a fastbreak jumper to give the Pipers a 6-5 advantage. The Pipers extended their lead with a 13-2 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Emma Lamppa at 5:26 and multiple baskets from Wiltrout. By the end of the first quarter, Hamline led 22-9, capitalizing on 13 Northwestern-St. Paul turnovers and seven steals to build a substantial advantage.
Hamline dominated the second quarter, extending their lead with a standout performance from beyond the arc.
Camille Cummings initiated the surge with a three-pointer at 9:30, assisted by
Josie Wiebusch.
Lauren Cooper followed with another three-pointer at 8:51, as the Pipers capitalized on Northwestern-St. Paul's turnovers.
Sophie Stork added two three-pointers, including one at 6:39, contributing to Hamline's 31-point quarter. Northwestern-St. Paul struggled offensively, managing only two field goals, while Hamline's defense forced eight turnovers. The quarter closed with Hamline ahead, 53-18.
Lauren Cooper's layup at 8:59 initiated a scoring drive for Hamline in the third quarter. Lamppa extended the lead with a three-pointer at 4:47, assisted by
Taylor Klement. Northwestern-St. Paul responded with a three-pointer from Karley Loven at 0:38, but
