MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Hamline (2-0, 0-0 MIAC) edged North Central (MN) (0-2, 0-0 UMAC) 102-99 in a thrilling contest at Clark-Danielson Gymnasium. The Pipers capitalized on 39 points off turnovers to secure the win.
The game began with North Central taking an early lead, powered by a layup from Remy Wedgeworth-Brown at 19:06 and a three-pointer by Carrington McNeal at 18:21. Hamline responded with
Dominic Dosmann hitting two free throws at 18:05 and a layup by
Dane DeDominces at 17:13, leveling the score. North Central then surged ahead, with Carmello McNeal contributing two three-pointers, including one at 6:20, keeping them in front. Despite Hamline's efforts, North Central closed out the half with a 47-32 advantage, bolstered by Jayden Livingston's layup and free throw in the final minute.
Hamline mounted a strong second-half comeback against North Central, outscoring them 44-29 in the half. Dosmann's layup at the 19:06 mark and DeDominces' pair of free throws shortly after helped cut the deficit early.
Brendan Ebel played a pivotal role, scoring consistently, including a layup to tie the game 68-68 with 4:02 remaining. Despite a late turnover by the Pipers, the game ended in a 76-76 tie, with neither team able to capitalize on final possession opportunities.
The first overtime saw both teams locked in a tight contest, with neither side able to pull away. Carmello McNeal hit a three-pointer for North Central early in the half, briefly giving them a three-point lead at 79-76. Hamline responded with consistent free-throw shooting, including a pair from Dosmann, tying the game at 79. Ebel's layup at 2:35 tied the game again at 81, and Dosmann added another three-point play later, pushing Hamline ahead 84-81. In the final moments, Jamisen Young's free throws for North Central tied the score at 85.
In the second overtime, Dosmann's layup at 4:47 tied the score at 87-87, setting the stage for a tense final stretch. Hamline gained a slight edge with DeDominces' layup and a crucial tip-in by Dosmann, pushing the score to 91-87.
Brock Donaldson extended the lead with a three-pointer at 2:13, followed by two free throws to make it 96-89. Despite a late surge from North Central, including a three-pointer by Carmello McNeal, Hamline held on for a 102-99 victory, with Dosmann sealing the win with a layup in the final seconds.
Ebel led the team with 28 points, converting 10 of 15 from the field and adding 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. Dosmann contributed significantly with 26 points, making 10 of 20 shots, and collected eight rebounds along with three steals. DeDominces added 16 points and recorded nine rebounds while shooting 6 of 8 from the field.
Ethan Wall-Atim made an impact defensively with two steals and also dished out three assists.
