WINONA, Minn. — Hamline (5-0-0, 2-0-0) shut out Saint Mary's University of Minnesota (1-4-0, 0-2-0) with a decisive 5–0 victory. The Pipers capitalized on the power play with two goals and recorded 29 saves to maintain the clean sheet.
The first period began with both teams seeking early control. Hamline's
Harper Powell made several key saves to keep the score even, fending off multiple attempts from Saint Mary's, including a series of shots by Reese Heitzman and Celia Midtbo. Despite facing a pair of penalties, the Pipers' defense, led by blocked shots from
Averie Martin and
Abigail Chamernick, successfully neutralized Saint Mary's power plays.
On the offensive front, Hamline generated opportunities with shots from Chamernick and
Ellie Newpower, but they were unable to convert, as Celeste Rimstad stood firm in goal for Saint Mary's. Hamline's power play later in the period also went uncapitalized, with a close call when
Nina Thorson hit the pipe. The period concluded with neither team able to break the deadlock, leaving the score tied at 0–0.
Annabel Mehta opened the scoring for Hamline early in the second period, netting an even-strength goal assisted by
Annika Lindgren. The momentum continued as Thorson doubled the advantage with another even-strength goal, assisted by Grace Delmonico. The Pipers maintained offensive pressure, keeping the puck in Saint Mary's zone and generating multiple scoring chances.
Hamline capitalized on a power-play opportunity later in the period, with
Ashlyn Abrahamson scoring her third goal of the season, assisted by Chamernick. The period concluded with the Pipers holding a strong 3-0 lead, having successfully increased their advantage and controlled much of the play.
The Pipers opened the third period with a power play goal just 34 seconds in, as Thorson scored with an assist from Chamernick, extending their lead. Shortly after, Abrahamson added an unassisted goal at 10:20, further solidifying Hamline's position. Despite a series of power plays in favor of Saint Mary's, the Pipers' defense, led by goalkeeper
Harper Powell, maintained the shutout and secured a decisive 5–0 victory.
Annabel Mehta scored one goal, which served as the game-winner. Abrahamson added to the offense with two goals, converting one on a power play. Thorson also recorded two goals, both contributing during power plays. In goal, Powell made 29 saves, maintaining a clean sheet.
The Pipers will play a home and home series against Bethel next weekend, November 21st and 22nd, first at home on Friday at TRIA Rink with a 6 PM puck drop.
