SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Chip Taylor has stepped down from his position as Hamline University head football coach.

"I would like to thank the players, coaches, alumni, parents and Hamline community for the support they have given me over the last ten years," said Taylor. "It was an honor to lead the football program. We have created a foundation that will help lead the players to a successful life after football. I take with me many great memories and relationships."

Taylor has been with Hamline University football since 2013, starting out as an assistant coach before taking the head coaching position in 2016. In his first year as head coach, he coached the Pipers to their best season record since 1997. Taylor coached 20 athletes that were named to the MIAC All-Conference first or second teams. Coach Taylor emphasized a commitment to the classroom and his teams achieved above a 3.0 GPA 20 out of 21 semesters.

"I want to thank Coach Chip Taylor for everything he did for our Hamline student-athletes. He led the Hamline Football program with integrity and character and was committed to our student-athletes on and off the field." said Hamline Assistant Vice President / Athletic Director Alex Focke. "His impact extends beyond the field of competition, and we are profoundly grateful for his service to Hamline University.  We will now immediately begin a national search to find our next coach to lead our football program into a bright future."
