Hamline Battles But Loses 3-2 In OT To UW-Stout

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (0-2-0) fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stout (1-1-0), 3–2, in overtime at home. The Pipers held a slight edge in faceoffs, winning 51% of them, but were unable to capitalize in the extra session.

The first period began with Wis.-Stout taking an early lead just 1:22 in when Tristan Therrien scored with an assist from Evan Luxford. Hamline responded in the middle of the period, equalizing at 12:17 through a goal by Will Matzke, assisted by Tristen May-Robinson. Both teams exchanged offensive opportunities, with the Pipers' Jake Turek and Wis.-Stout's Ryan Knight making key saves to keep the score level at 1–1 by the end of the period. The period ended with Hamline outshooting Wis.-Stout but unable to break the deadlock.

In the second period, Nicholas Stevens put Wis.-Stout ahead with a goal at 14:59, assisted by Zachary Aprea-Ricard and Noah Tyrrell. The Pipers responded on the power play when May-Robinson scored at 10:19, leveling the score at 2-2 with assists from Matzke and Brock Carls. The period saw numerous blocked shots, including key denials by Kyle Mortenson and Owen Van Tassel for Hamline, as both teams remained tied heading into the final period. Hamline ended the period on a power-play opportunity following a last-second slashing penalty on Tyler Pfister.

The third period between the Pipers and Wis.-Stout concluded without any goals, as both teams struggled to convert opportunities. Hamline was active offensively, with shots from Mortenson and Cam VanSickle, but were repeatedly denied by Wis.-Stout's goaltender, Knight. Wis.-Stout had their chances on the power play, especially following penalties on Hamline's Landon Steffen and Van Tassel, but Turek managed key saves to preserve the scoreless frame. Despite multiple power-play opportunities and hitting the pipes twice, Wis.-Stout could not capitalize, resulting in a goalless period.

The overtime period began with Hamline winning the opening faceoff, setting a competitive tone. Knight made crucial saves for Wis.-Stout, including stops on shots by Matzke and Carls. At 2:58, Arhip Sidarovich secured the game-winning goal for Wis.-Stout in sudden death overtime, assisted by Luxford for the 3-2 overtime win.

May-Robinson scored one goal and added an assist, finishing with two points and a plus-one rating. Matzke recorded a goal and an assist, while also winning 61% of his faceoffs. Carls contributed an assist. Tyler Jordan went 4-for-6 at the faceoff dot.

The Pipers begin conference play next weekend, as they take on Saint Mary's in a home-and-home series on November 14th and 15th, with the first game in Winona on Friday starting at 7 PM.
