No. 10 Pipers Narrowly Defeated by No. 11 Blugolds in Tense Matchup

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (8-2-0) was narrowly defeated by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (10-2-0), 3-2, in a tense matchup on Wednesday. Despite a power-play goal in the first period, Hamline could not overcome the early deficit.

The game commenced with Hamline's Grace Delmonico contesting the opening faceoff against Adrienne Hansen. Despite early offensive attempts by the Pipers, the Blugolds' Maddie Hulter scored at 6:19, placing the visiting team ahead. Hamline responded effectively, with Ella Rothe capitalizing on a power play opportunity assisted by Delmonico and Iyla Ryskamp, equalizing the score at 7:52. As the period progressed, the Blugolds regained momentum with Kenzie Keller netting a power-play goal at 16:53, assisted by Jordan Hancock and Kylie Wiltse. Hamline's defense worked to limit further damage, the period ending with the Pipers trailing 2–1.

Wis.-Eau Claire extended their lead early in the second period with a goal by Jana Lesch at 15:43, assisted by Ashley Wagenbach and Adrienne Hansen. Hamline responded with a series of offensive attempts, including shots from Delmonico and Ryskamp, but were unable to convert against Kambelle Freije. Despite maintaining pressure, Hamline entered the break trailing 3–1.

Hamline began the third period adding the offensive pressure and scoring just over a minute into play. Ashlyn Abrahamson capitalized on an even-strength opportunity, assisted by Abigail Chamernick and Delmonico. This goal brought Hamline back into contention after trailing. Despite several attempts and shots on goal from both teams, Hamline managed to keep Wis.-Eau Claire from extending their lead. Kendra Nordick made key saves, including during a late Blugolds power play. The period ended with Hamline unable to find the back of the net once more and the Blugolds would take the win, 3-2.

Ella Rothe scored one goal and converted on the power play to contribute significantly to the team's efforts. Abrahamson added another goal, tallying a total of one point for the game. Delmonico recorded two assists. Meanwhile, Nordick made 20 saves, providing a strong defensive backbone despite the result.

The Pipers are now off for a few weeks as they get winter break coming up soon. They will be back in action after the new year on January 5 and 6 when they head out east to Massachusetts.
