DULUTH, Minn. — Hamline (7-1-0, 4-1-0) edged out the College of St. Scholastica (3-6-1, 0-4-1) with a 3–2 victory after overtime. Hamline secured the win with a power-play goal in the second period and a decisive goal in the extra session.
The game began with
Harper Powell in the net for Hamline. The first period saw Hamline's offensive efforts led by
Abigail Chamernick and
Calie Peterson, who both tested St. Scholastica's goaltender, Makenzie Cole, with multiple attempts. Despite several shots on goal, including a potential breakthrough from
Kaiya Sandy that hit the pipe, Hamline was unable to find the back of the net. Defensively, Hamline held firm, with
Annabel Mehta and
Maddy Belisle blocking key attempts from St. Scholastica players. Powell made crucial saves to keep the score level, particularly during a penalty kill mid-period. Hamline closed the period with a power play opportunity but remained scoreless. The period ended with the scoreboard reading 0–0.
The second period began with the Pipers taking control early, winning multiple faceoffs. Hamline capitalized on a St. Scholastica penalty when
Ella Rothe scored a power-play goal at 15:52, assisted by
Ashlyn Abrahamson and
Iyla Ryskamp, briefly giving the team a 1–0 lead. St. Scholastica responded with two even-strength goals later in the period. Hanley Block tied the game at 6:57, and Lyndi Schubert scored at 6:03 to put St. Scholastica ahead. Despite several attempts by Hamline to equalize, the period concluded with St. Scholastica leading 2–1.
Hamline began the third period aggressively, with Ryskamp and Abrahamson both launching early shots that were stopped by St. Scholastica's goalie. Despite facing a power play shortly after, Hamline's defense, led by Powell, successfully thwarted the home team's attempts, maintaining a balanced score. As the clock wound down, Hamline pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. This strategic move paid off when Grace Delmonico scored with just 15 seconds remaining, assisted by Abrahamson and Ryskamp, securing a 2–2 tie to close the period.
The overtime period began with St. Scholastica winning the initial faceoff, but Hamline quickly regained momentum. Abrahamson had multiple shot attempts, with her persistence paying off at 2:45 remaining. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime, assisted by Delmonico and Chamernick. Hamline secured the victory with a final score of 3–2.
Abrahamson scored one goal and added two assists, contributing to three points and securing a game-winning goal. Rothe netted a power-play goal, tallying one point and recording two shots. Delmonico registered a goal and an assist, totaling two points with four shots on target. Powell, in goal, made 31 saves while allowing two goals in her appearance.
