DULUTH, Minn. — Hamline (3-5-0, 3-3-0) defeated the College of St. Scholastica (3-7-1, 1-4-1), 5–2, at Mars Lakeview Arena. The Pipers secured the victory with a strong first period, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes.
Hamline took an early lead in the first period with
Calvin Knight scoring at 1:04, assisted by
Nikolai Dulak and
Tristen May-Robinson. St. Scholastica quickly responded with a power-play goal from Hunter Hanson at 2:19, leveling the score. However, the Pipers regained control as Dulak netted his own goal at 3:08, with assists from Knight and
Jack Lambert.
Kyle Mortenson extended Hamline's advantage to 3-1 at 8:41, assisted by
Owen Van Tassel and May-Robinson, securing a two-goal lead heading into the intermission.
St. Scholastica's Evan Pahos added to their score early in the second period at 18:37, assisted by Braden Panzer, bringing the game to a score of 3-2. Hamline countered with Charles Levis taking a shot at 18:33, but it was saved by Eino Rissanen. The period was characterized by a flurry of offensive attempts from St. Scholastica, but Hamline's defense, including crucial blocks by
AJ Carls and Knight, kept the pressure at bay. Hamline managed to kill two penalties during the period, with
Keaton French making several key saves to maintain the scoreline.
Hamline extended their lead early in the third period with a goal from
Sam Menne at 17:13, assisted by
Tyler Jordan and
Liam Guerin. Despite several blocked and missed shots, the Pipers maintained offensive pressure. Dulak added another goal for Hamline at 2:29, with assists from
Edward Gregorin and Mortenson, solidifying a decisive 5-2 victory. St. Scholastica's efforts to close the gap were thwarted by Hamline's defense, and they were unable to capitalize on their power-play opportunities.
Mortenson scored one goal and added an assist, contributing to his team's victory with a game-winning goal. May-Robinson provided two assists and finished with a plus-minus of +3, showcasing his impact on the ice. Dulak tallied two goals and one assist, leading the team's offense with six shots on goal. Goalie French made 29 saves, allowing only two goals in the game, demonstrating solid performance in net.
