Cobbers Top Pipers

MOORHEAD, MINN.--The Hamline University women's basketball team fell to Concordia (Minn.) 76-57 in Moorhead, Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.

The Pipers fall to 13-6, 8-4 MIAC, while the Cobbers improve to 12-7, 7-5 MIAC.

The Cobbers began the contest with a 12-0 run with 5:11 left in the first quarter, thanks in part to Makayla Anderson's consecutive layups. The Cobbers maintained their lead through efficient scoring in the paint and fast breaks, finishing the quarter ahead 23-15.

In the second frame, Concordia established a strong lead, highlighted by a significant scoring run that extended their advantage to 47-26 at halftime. Concordia's Greta Tollefson opened the quarter with a successful layup, followed by consistent scoring contributions from Carlee Sieben and Makayla Anderson. Camille Cummings and Yasmeen Abed accounted for some of the Pipers' scoring, yet they were unable to overcome Concordia's offensive momentum. The Cobbers' bench played a crucial role, contributing 10 points in the second quarter.

Concordia extended their lead with a strong performance at the free-throw line, converting 10-of-11 attempts.  Yasmeen Abed contributed a 3-pointer at 8:29 for Hamline, but Concordia's Greta Tollefson quickly responded with a 3-pointer of her own, maintaining their momentum en route to a 52-29 advantage. Concordia took a 25-point, 63-58 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Hamline managed to outscore Concordia 19-13 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 28-point deficit established earlier in the period. Concordia's Makayla Anderson played a significant role defensively, making a block and securing multiple rebounds. Despite a late push by the Pipers, including a 3-pointer by Brittney Draeger in the final minutes, the Cobbers maintained control with consistent scoring and defensive efforts, highlighted by Carlee Sieben's steal and fast-break jumper to extend their lead and secure a 76-57 victory.

Lauren Cooper led Hamline in steals with three, contributing eight points on 2-for-4 shooting, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, while also grabbing three rebounds. Yasmeen Abed was another standout for the Pipers, securing four rebounds and five points, complemented by two assists and two steals. Camille Cummings was the Pipers' top scorer with 11 points, including one 3-pointer, along with two rebounds and two assists to her stat line.

The Pipers shot .373 (22-of-59) from the field, while the Cobbers finished with a .417 (25-of-60) mark.

Makayla Anderson emerged as a standout player for the Cobbers, leading the team with 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists. and two blocks. Carlee Sieben was notable for her defensive efforts, tallying three steals along with 11 points and four rebounds. Molly Musland led Concordia in assists with five, while also achieving a double-digit total in rebounds with 10, adding six points to her statline. Greta Tollefson made an impact with her efficient shooting, scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 field goals, and securing five rebounds. Alexa Snesrud was effective from beyond the arc, hitting three 3-pointers that totaled nine points.

Hamline will make the short trek to Augsburg on Wednesday, February 5 for a 5:30 p.m. game.
