Pipers Blank Cobbers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University women's hockey team shutout Concordia (Minn.) 5-0 at TRIA rink on Friday night. This victory extended the Pipers' impressive win streak against the Cobbers to five games.

Hamline improves to 12-8-0, 7-6 MIAC, while Concordia falls to 4-16-0, 3-10 MIAC.

The first period saw both teams actively engaging in offensive plays, but it was Hamline that made a significant impact with a goal. Iyla Ryskamp scored the period's only goal at 9:52, marking her seventh goal of the season, giving the team a 1-0 lead. Throughout the frame, both teams had multiple shot attempts but struggled to convert, with Concordia's goalie Ashlea Arvidson and Hamline's goalie Harper Powell making several key saves. The period ended with the Cobbers applying pressure but unable to break through, as Powell saved a series of shots in the final minute to maintain Hamline's 1-0 lead.

The second period showcased a series of power plays, though neither team capitalized on these opportunities. Ryskamp was penalized for slashing at 2:25, leading to a power play for Concordia, but they failed to convert with several wide and blocked shots. Emme Nelson also served a penalty for tripping at 9:41, giving the Cobbers another power play, which again resulted in no goals despite multiple attempts. In the closing minutes, Cailey McLaughlin received a penalty for body checking, yet Concordia could not break the deadlock, leaving the period scoreless.

The third period began with Hamline winning consecutive faceoffs, setting the tone early. Despite several missed shots by the Pipers, including attempts by Nikki Olund and Ryskamp, the team broke through with two quick goals by Ashlyn Abrahamson at 9:38 and 10:00, both at even strength, extending their lead to 3-0. Concordia faced another setback with a penalty, allowing Hamline to capitalize further as Haley Eder-Zdechlik scored a short-handed goal at 12:47, bringing the score to 4-0. Calie Peterson added another goal for Hamline at 15:42, sealing a dominant 5-0 victory in the period.

Hamline outshot Concordia 29-21.

Ryskamp stood out on the Hamline team with a highlight in several categories, including scoring one goal and assisting on two others, making her total points three. She also had a game-winning goal and led the team with a plus-minus of +4 and a faceoff win percentage of 64. Abrahamson scored two goals, along with a plus-minus of +3. Annabel Mehta was effective defensively, contributing to the team with a plus-minus of 0, while Kylie Huseth added an assist and two blocks, contributing to a plus-minus of +2. In goal, Powell was a formidable presence, making 21 saves.

Goalie Ashlea Arvidson was active in the net with 24 saves for Concordia.

The Pipers will look to sweep Concordia (Minn.) at TRIA Rink tomorrow, Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m.
