Saint Paul, Minn. - The Pipers secured a decisive 3-0 home victory over the Macalester Scots in their MIAC Conference opener.
Nearly two weeks had passed since Hamline's last competitive action, however the Pipers showed no rust in Hutton Arena on Thursday night. The Pipers took control early with a 25-19 opening set win. After weathering a focused Scot effort, Hamline finished the night with set wins of 25-22 and 25-18. The Pipers' performance was highlighted by strong play across the board, as they outperformed Macalester in nearly all statistical categories, including total points (57-42), kills (37-34), aces (11-3), and blocks (9-5).
Key player performances for Hamline included an aggressive Grace Bathurst, who led the team with 10 kills and 4 blocks, and Kayli Starkey, who contributed in a big way with 5 aces and 8 digs. Cameryn Sand kept busy all evening leading Pipers with 29 assists.
For Macalester, Ella Cohen-Richie led the team with 9 kills, while Elizabeth Joo recorded 12 digs, and Hannah Morrow had 17 assists.
The win extends Hamline's perfect home record against Macalester to 8-0 since 2011.
Hamline travels to St. Joseph's, MN on Saturday to face last year's MIAC Tournament Champion, Saint Benedict's as MIAC action is now in full swing.
