Pipers and Dutch Battle to Draw

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Hamline University women's soccer team and Central (Iowa) played to a 2-2 draw at Pat Paterson Field on Wednesday, both teams scoring once in each half.

Hamline moves to 1-1-1 on the season. while Central exits Wednesday at 2-0-1.

The opening frame began with momentum for Hamline as Danna Garcia scored a goal just 15 seconds into the match. Central responded courtesy of Piper Eighmy, off a pass from Rylee Rustad, which leveled the score 1-1 in the 21st minute. Pipers goalkeeper Maddox Fergus made crucial saves, which included a shot from Mimi Pavelka at the 29th minute, followed by another from Eighmy. Despite offensive efforts from both sides, the half concluded with a 1-1 tie.

The final 45:00 saw a series of strategic plays and critical fouls. Neva Woodson broke the deadlock with a goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Christin Broyles, pushing the Pipers ahead 2-1. However, Central equalized shortly after when Pavelka converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute, bringing the score to 2-2. Fergus made critical saves, including a shot from Central's Emma Kramer in the 75th minute and Katy Brown in the 84th minute, helping to maintain the tie through the end of the half.

Fergus recorded five saves in goal for Hamline, facing 14 shots over 90 minutes. Garcia and Woodson each scored one goal for the Pipers, while Broyles contributed with an assist in the match.

Eighmy scored one of Central's goals. Pavelka also found the back of the net, leading the Dutch with four shots, two of which were on goal. Rustad contributed with an assist for Central. Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore stopped two shots for the Dutch.

The Pipers will travel to UW-Stevens Point on Sunday, September 7. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
