Pipers Maintain Momentum with 65-60 Win Over CSB

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — Hamline (10-3, 4-2 MIAC) defeated the College of Saint Benedict (9-4, 4-2 MIAC), 65-60, at Claire Lynch Hall, aided by a 42-39 rebounding advantage and 18 points off turnovers.

The game began with Kira Young scoring a layup for Saint Benedict, assisted by Drew Buslee. Hamline responded with a three-pointer from Sophie Stork, leveling the score at 5-5. Later, Marina LaFreniere added two free throws, pushing the Pipers ahead 10-9. Josie Schmidt's layup extended their lead to 15-9, and Camille Cummings followed with a three-pointer to make it 18-9. Saint Benedict closed the quarter's scoring with a three-pointer by Drew Buslee at the buzzer, ending the quarter with Hamline leading 20-16.

Saint Benedict started the second quarter with Kira Young's jumper at 9:37, briefly narrowing the gap. However, Lauren Cooper responded with a fastbreak three-pointer for Hamline, pushing the lead to 23-18. The Pipers' strong defensive rebounding, led by players like Camille Cummings and Emma Lamppa, limited Saint Benedict's second-chance points. Josie Schmidt's free throws and a three-pointer by Lamppa extended Hamline's advantage to 30-21 midway through the quarter. Despite a late three-pointer from Megan Morgan with 1:05 remaining, Hamline maintained control, ending the quarter ahead 37-28.

In the third quarter, Hamline maintained their edge over Saint Benedict, outscoring them 8-7. Anna Rynkiewich contributed significantly with a jumper at 6:43, extending Hamline's lead. Following a technical foul call against Drew Buslee, Camille Cummings converted both free throws at 4:09 to further the lead. Saint Benedict's Megan Driste narrowed the gap with a three-pointer at 3:40, but Sophie Stork's late layup with 37 seconds left ensured Hamline's position at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Hamline maintained their lead over Saint Benedict, finishing with a 65-60 victory. Camille Cummings was pivotal for Hamline, contributing multiple free throws including the final point to secure the win. Sophie Stork and Isabella Jensen made key plays with Stork scoring a jumper at 8:46 and Jensen adding a layup shortly after, extending their lead early in the quarter. Saint Benedict attempted a comeback with Megan Morgan scoring a layup in the final minute, but Hamline's defense held strong, aided by steals from Anna Rynkiewich and Josie Schmidt.

Camille Cummings led the team with 16 points, converting 7-of-8 free throw attempts and adding two steals. Josie Schmidt contributed 10 points and recorded two steals along with two assists. Sophie Stork finished with nine points and collected eight rebounds. Emma Lamppa added seven points, hitting both of her attempts from beyond the arc, and grabbed five rebounds.
