Ryskamp Leads Pipers with Hat Trick In 9-0 Win Over Wis.-Stevens Point

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (11-2-0) dominated the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (8-9-0) with a decisive 9–0 victory at home on Sunday. The Pipers capitalized on three power-play goals and recorded 71 shots on goal, a new single game shots on goal record for the Pipers. That record was previously held from a game on November 23, 2019 against St. Olaf where the Pipers had 67 shots on goal against the Oles.

Hamline took the early initiative in the first period, winning multiple faceoffs and applying pressure on Wis.-Stevens Point's defense. Ella Rothe opened the scoring at 7:43 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Kaiya Sandy, to give Hamline a 1–0 lead. Shortly after, Iyla Ryskamp extended the advantage with another even-strength goal at 8:52, assisted by Emma Ramstorf. Hamline continued to control the pace and capitalized on a power play opportunity. Ryskamp netted her second goal of the period at 15:48, this time on the power play, with assists from Abigail Chamernick and Ella Rothe. Hamline maintained a strong defensive presence, with Harper Powell securing the net. The period ended with Hamline leading 3–0 over Wis.-Stevens Point.

Hamline began the second period with a significant momentum shift as Annabel Mehta scored a short-handed goal just seven seconds in, extending the lead to 4–0. The team continued to press offensively, with Annika Lindgren and Mehta each adding another goal to increase the advantage to 6–0, and Nina Thorson capitalizing on a power play to make it 7–0. The offensive surge persisted with Ryskamp completing a hat trick on a power-play goal, pushing the score to 8–0. Sandy later found the net with an even-strength goal, solidifying the dominant performance. Hamline concluded the period firmly in control, leading 9–0.

The third period began with Hamline maintaining strong control in the faceoff circle, winning numerous draws, including the initial one by Ryskamp. Despite the consistent offensive pressure, including shots from Ellie Newpower and Thorson, Hamline was unable to extend their lead as Claire Swanson made several key saves for Wis.-Stevens Point. Hamline continued to apply pressure throughout the period, generating multiple shot attempts and successfully executing faceoffs. The team was also effective in blocking opponent shots and maintaining defensive stability, with Powell and Maya Marston making critical saves to keep Wis.-Stevens Point off the scoreboard. The period concluded without any additional scoring, preserving Hamline's commanding 9–0 lead to end the game.

Ryskamp scored a hat trick, including two power-play goals, and won 14 of 19 faceoffs. Mehta added two goals and an assist, finishing with a +3 rating. Rothe contributed a goal and an assist. Powell recorded 15 saves, securing a shutout in goal.

The Pipers will be to MIAC play on January 16 and 17, when they take on St. Olaf in a home-and-home series. They will start on the road in Northfield on Friday the 16th, with puck drop set for 6 PM!
