Piper's Early Surge Powers 6-2 Win Over No. 3 Augsburg

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — No. 5 Hamline (14-2-0, 8-1-0) defeated No. 3 Augsburg (11-3-1, 5-2-1), 6–2, in a conference matchup at their home venue. The Pipers secured the victory with a strong start, scoring four goals in the first period and maintaining their lead throughout the game.

Hamline established early momentum in the first period with Ashlyn Abrahamson scoring an unassisted goal just 24 seconds into play. This quick advantage set the tone for the period. Annika Lindgren extended the lead to 2-0 at 15:47, assisted by Abigail Chamernick and Annabel Mehta. Augsburg responded with a power-play goal from Aunna Schulte, narrowing the gap to 2-1. However, the Pipers quickly regained control with back-to-back goals. Grace Delmonico scored the third goal, assisted by Iyla Ryskamp, followed shortly by Brooke Klemz, assisted by Nina Thorson, pushing the lead to 4-1. The period concluded with Hamline holding a strong lead.

Hamline continued the momentum midway through the second period with Klemz scoring at 11:56, assisted by Ellie Newpower and Thorson, extending their lead. The home team maintained pressure, consistently blocking shots from Augsburg and winning key faceoffs to control the pace. Augsburg responded with a goal from Kate Haug at the buzzer, assisted by Schulte, closing the gap slightly. Despite this, Hamline maintained a comfortable lead, ending the period with a 5–2 advantage.

The third period saw the Pipers solidify their advantage with a goal at 14:43 by Thorson, assisted by Klemz and Maddy Belisle, extending their lead to 6–2. The team maintained control by winning several key faceoffs, keeping pressure on Augsburg despite being on the penalty kill twice. Hamline's defense played a crucial role, with Kendra Nordick making multiple stops and Newpower blocking several attempts. The period concluded with Hamline holding their lead, securing a 6–2 victory as the final horn sounded.

Klemz led with two goals and an assist, finishing with a +3 rating. Thorson contributed significantly by scoring once and adding two assists, also posting a +3 rating. Delmonico scored the game-winning goal, marking her presence on the scoresheet. Abrahamson secured a goal and maintained a perfect 100% faceoff win percentage.

The Pipers will finish their series with the Auggies tomorrow afternoon with a 4 PM puck drop in Minneapolis!
