Pipers and Bennies Battle to 2–2 Tie, Hamline Wins Shootout

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Hamline (14-3-1, 8-2-1) and the College of Saint Benedict (11-3-4, 6-2-3) played to a 2–2 tie at St. Cloud, with neither team finding the net in the overtime period. Hamline held a 32-25 advantage in shots, but the teams remained deadlocked after regulation and extra time. The Pipers would secure the extra MIAC point with a shootout win.

The game commenced with a faceoff won by Grace Delmonico of the Pipers, setting the tone for the period. Hamline maintained possession and generated multiple scoring opportunities, with shots from Ella Rothe and Ashlyn Abrahamson testing Saint Benedict's goaltender, Lexi Badali. Defensively, Harper Powell was solid for the Pipers, turning aside numerous attempts from Saint Benedict, including shots by Jorja Jusczak and Skylar Salscheider. Hamline had a brief power play opportunity following a penalty on Saint Benedict, but it was cut short due to a penalty on Abigail Chamernick. The period concluded with both teams locked in a scoreless tie, 0–0.

Hamline began the second period with control, winning the initial faceoff and maintaining offensive pressure. At 5:06, Nina Thorson scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Grace Delmonico and Ellie Newpower, putting Hamline ahead 1–0. The team continued to apply pressure throughout the period, with multiple attempts on goal. In the final minutes, Abigail Chamernick extended the lead to 2–0, again assisted by Delmonico and Kaiya Sandy. The period concluded with Hamline holding a two-goal advantage.

Hamline held a lead entering the third period, demonstrating early initiative by controlling faceoffs and generating multiple shots on goal. Despite their efforts, shots by Grace Delmonico and Brooke Klemz were stopped by Saint Benedict's goalie, Lexi Badali, maintaining the pressure but failing to extend the lead. As the period progressed, Saint Benedict capitalized on an opportunity at 5:59 with a goal by Bailey Vesper, leveling the score. A late power play for the Pipers saw additional chances, but they were unable to convert, and Saint Benedict's strategic use of an extra attacker resulted in a tying goal by Presley Kraemer at 0:47. The period concluded with a 2–2 tie, as Hamline's defense held firm against the closing onslaught.

The overtime period commenced with Grace Delmonico winning the opening faceoff for Hamline, setting an assertive tone. Harper Powell was pivotal, making crucial saves against Presley Kraemer and Ella Tuccitto to maintain the scoreline. Despite a penalty on Abigail Chamernick, Hamline effectively killed off the Saint Benedict power play, highlighted by Iyla Ryskamp's blocked shot. As the period progressed, Hamline gained a power play advantage with under a minute remaining when Helena Siska was penalized for tripping. Iyla Ryskamp took two shots during this advantage, but both attempts were thwarted by Saint Benedict's defense. The period concluded scoreless, with both teams unable to break the deadlock in overtime.

In the shootout period, Hamline's defense, led by goalie Harper Powell, successfully blocked all opposing attempts from Saint Benedict. The visiting team struggled initially, with missed attempts from Kaiya Sandy, Ella Rothe, Brooke Klemz, and Grace Delmonico. However, Nina Thorson broke the deadlock with a successful shot past CSB's goalie, Lexi Badali, securing the advantage for Hamline. The period concluded with Hamline maintaining a strategic edge, ending the shootout with a 1–0 victory for the extra point.

Abigail Chamernick scored one goal and contributed two shots on goal. Nina Thorson also found the back of the net, tallying one goal with four shots. Grace Delmonico recorded two assists and excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 13 of 19 draws. Harper Powell finished with 23 saves on 25 shots, maintaining a strong presence in net.
