BOSTON, Mass. — Hamline (10-2-0) defeated UMass Boston (6-4-1), 5-1, on Tuesday with a balanced offensive showing. The Pipers converted on a power play and added a short-handed goal, outshooting the Beacons 36-10.
Hamline initiated the first period with a strong presence, taking control from the initial faceoff.
Ellie Newpower broke through early, scoring an unassisted goal at 12:30 to put Hamline on the scoreboard. This momentum was maintained with Hamline consistently winning faceoffs and applying offensive pressure.
As the period advanced, Hamline's offensive persistence paid off once more.
Abigail Chamernick extended the lead, netting a goal assisted by
Averie Martin and
Ashlyn Abrahamson with just 38 seconds remaining. The period concluded with Hamline holding a 2-0 advantage over UMass Boston.
Hamline sustained offensive pressure throughout the second period, with multiple attempts on goal by Abrahamson and
Maddy Belisle. Despite several saves by UMass Boston's Leah Bosch, Hamline's persistence was evident.
UMass Boston managed to close the gap Shayna Chin scored at 1:43 remaining in the period, assisted by Kristen Briggs. However, Hamline quickly regained the two goal lead with a power-play goal by
Ella Rothe, assisted by Chamernick and Abrahamson, with just 21 seconds remaining. The period concluded with Hamline leading 3–1.
Hamline initiated the third period with strong control, winning multiple faceoffs and generating offensive pressure. Grace Delmonico capitalized on this momentum by scoring an even-strength goal at 10:33, assisted by Chamernick, extending Hamline's lead.
Later, with UMass Boston on a power play, Belisle seized an opportunity to score a short-handed empty-net goal at 15:07, further solidifying Hamline's position. Despite UMass Boston's attempts to rally, Hamline maintained their defensive stance. The period closed with Hamline leading 5-1.
Chamernick led the team with a goal and two assists, including the game-winning goal, and finished with a +3 rating.
Iyla Ryskamp excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 13 of 19 for a 68% success rate. Newpower contributed with a goal on five shots, maintaining a +2 rating. Rothe added to the scoreline with a power-play goal.
The Pipers will be back in action with MIAC play on January 16 and 17 where they will play a home-and-home series with St. Olaf!
