COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Hamline lost to Saint John's 7-0 on Tuesday. Hamline was limited to three shots, all in the first half, and put two on goal while facing 30 shots.
The Pipers reached halftime trailing 2-0 after Saint John's scored in the 27th minute and added another goal at 44:56. Earlier,
Alec Setterberg helped keep the match scoreless through the opening pressure, saving shots by Grady Monette and Eli Ryan in the first two minutes while Hamline also defended two Saint John's corner kicks inside the opening 10 minutes.
Beniam Makonnen gave the Pipers their first shot in the 15th minute, and
Johanso Camacho later forced Alex Keekley into a save in the 37th. Hamline pushed again late when
Amjad Mohamed put a shot on frame at 44:20 and earned a corner kick five seconds later, but Saint John's answered in the final moments to take the two-goal lead into halftime.
Hamline spent the second half defending sustained Saint John's pressure, conceding five goals after halftime as the home side turned a 2-0 match into a 7-0 final. Saint John's scored twice in the opening five minutes of the half, with Billy Cornett finishing in the 48th minute and Grady Monette following in the 50th to make it 4-0, while Setterberg added saves in the 47th and 52nd minutes. The Pipers absorbed another stretch from the 59th through 67th minutes, including Setterberg save on Jacob Oliver, before Oliver scored at 66:32 and again at 68:03. Hamline kept Saint John's off the board through a later run of shots and a corner between 78:43 and 85:30, but Peter Alberigi scored in the 88th minute, and the Pipers finished the half without a listed shot in the 7-0 loss.
Setterberg recorded five saves in 69:12 in goal. Camacho put his lone shot on goal. Mohamed also placed his only attempt on frame.
Hamline is 4-5-3 overall and 1-3-2 in conference play. Saint John's is 12-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play.
