ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline lost to Saint Mary's (MN) 3-0 on Friday, with set scores of 19-25, 20-25, 21-25. The Pipers finished with 27 kills and hit .092, while Saint Mary's (MN) totaled 35 kills and hit .232.
Saint Mary's (MN) took the first set 25-19 behind 12 kills and four service aces, including five kills from Kali Olson and three aces from Ayla Olson. The Pipers finished with eight kills and two aces, getting four kills from
Lydia Graham and three from
Sophia Johnson while cutting a 13-8 deficit to 15-14 before Saint Mary's (MN) finished the set.
Saint Mary's (MN) took the second set 25-20, with its block accounting for five points as the Pipers committed eight attack errors. Hamline matched Saint Mary's (MN) with 10 kills and got six from
Lexi Helmin, while Kali Olson had five kills for the visitors.
The Pipers erased an 18-11 deficit in the third set with a 7-0 run, as
Lexi Helmin served six straight points and
Ashley Norberg had two kills in the stretch to tie it at 18-18. Saint Mary's (MN) still took the set 25-21, finishing with 13 kills to Hamline's 10; Norberg totaled five kills in the set, while Kali Olson had six for Saint Mary's (MN).
Lexi Helmin led Hamline with eight kills, hit .438 and added three service aces and two block assists.
Cameryn Sand recorded 23 assists, seven digs and two block assists.
Ava Montanez collected a team-high 11 digs.
Sophia Johnson added seven kills and eight digs.
Hamline is 4-12 overall and 1-3 in MIAC play. Saint Mary's (MN) is 10-9 overall and 1-2 in MIAC play.
