Gustavus Defeats Pipers 5-0 in Final Game Of The Season

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (4-18-3, 4-10-2) fell to Gustavus Adolphus (17-7-1, 12-4-0) with a final score of 5-0 on Saturday. Despite 27 saves by the Pipers goaltender, the team was unable to find the back of the net against a strong Gustavus Adolphus defense.

The first period began with Gustavus Adolphus gaining an early lead through Jack Anderson's goal at 1:28, assisted by Nate Stone and Hunter Newhouse, marking Anderson's fourth goal of the season. Gustavus Adolphus extended its lead to 2–0 at 14:17 with a goal by Kyle Doll, assisted by Gregor Jennersjo, adding pressure to Hamline. Despite Hamline's efforts to capitalize on a late power play after Nick Blood's hooking penalty, Gustavus Adolphus maintained its two-goal advantage as the period concluded. Both teams exchanged numerous shots, but goaltenders Marko Belak for Gustavus Adolphus and Jake Turek for the Pipers remained solid in net.

The second period between Hamline and Gustavus Adolphus saw multiple power plays and defensive stands but ended without any scoring. The Pipers faced an early penalty for too many players on the ice, but Gustavus Adolphus was unable to capitalize, with Turek saving a shot from Anderson at 18:03. Later, Hamline had power play opportunities following penalties on Gregor Jennersjo and Charlie Sandven, but Belak made several key saves to maintain the scoreless tie. Both teams traded shots throughout the period, with significant defensive contributions, including blocks by Hamline's Tristen May-Robinson and Nikolai Dulak, ensuring the period closed with the score still tied.

Gustavus Adolphus expanded its lead in the third period, beginning with Doll's goal at 15:15, assisted by Sam Rice and Emil Samuelsson. Doll scored again at 8:52, completing a hat trick with assists from Riku Brown and Rice, further increasing the visitor's advantage. The sequence continued with a power-play goal at 6:41 by Anderson, assisted by Ludvig Mellgren, bringing the score to 5–0. Hamline's efforts were thwarted by Gustavus Adolphus' defense and goaltending, and the game ended with Gustavus Adolphus maintaining a decisive lead.

Tyler Jordan excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 8 of 12 draws for a 66% success rate. Will Matzke also demonstrated proficiency, securing 11 faceoff victories out of 18 attempts, resulting in a 61% win rate.  Goaltender Turek recorded 27 saves despite allowing five goals.

The Pipers concluded their season with a 4-18-3 overall record and a 4-10-2 conference record. Thank you to our senior and early graduating juniors on a great career! GO PIPERS!
