Pipers Fall to Gustavus 4-1 in Tough Road Matchup

SAINT PETER, Minn. — Hamline (20-4-1, 14-3-1) fell to Gustavus Adolphus (13-10-2, 10-6-2), 4-1, on Saturday. The Pipers scored their lone goal in the first period before Gustavus Adolphus responded with four unanswered goals.

Hamline initiated the first period with strong defensive play, highlighted by Kendra Nordick's saves, which set the stage for an early advantage. Kaiya Sandy capitalized on this momentum by scoring an unassisted goal at 15:33, giving the Pipers the lead. Throughout the period, the Pipers maintained defensive pressure, with Nordick successfully turning away multiple Gustavus Adolphus shot attempts. As the period progressed, Hamline continued to generate offensive opportunities, though Gustavus Adolphus' goalie, Lily Timmons, made several saves to keep the game close. The period concluded with Hamline holding a 1–0 lead, setting a positive tone for the rest of the match.

Gustavus Adolphus opened the second period with a strong faceoff presence, winning several draws early on. The momentum shifted when Hamline's Abigail Chamernick fired a shot that was blocked, but the visitor's defense remained resilient. Nordick made multiple saves, staving off Gustavus Adolphus' attempts to break the deadlock. Midway through the period, a power play opportunity for Gustavus Adolphus culminated in a goal by Grace Schuck, assisted by Lily Mortenson and Eva Nelson, tie it up 1–1. Hamline managed to hold off further scoring, even while short-handed again late in the period. The period concluded with the two teams knotted at 1–1.

Gustavus Adolphus extended its lead early in the third period with an unassisted goal by Bauer Ackerman at 19:04, setting the tone for the final frame. Hamline's power play opportunity at 18:36 was met with strong defensive play from the hosts, preventing any change in the score. Midway through the period, Talia Domschot added another goal for Gustavus Adolphus at 15:44, while Hamline struggled to capitalize on its subsequent power play. Despite several shots on goal, the visitor's attempts were thwarted. Gustavus Adolphus solidified its advantage with a goal by Kylie Scott at 12:16. Hamline continued to press offensively, generating multiple shots on goal, but could not break through. The game concluded with Gustavus Adolphus securing a 4-1 victory.

Kaiya Sandy scored one goal and won 8 of 10 faceoffs, showcasing a strong presence at the faceoff circle. Ashlyn Abrahamson recorded an 80 percent success rate on faceoffs, winning 8 of 10 attempts. Kendra Nordick finished with 31 saves in goal, despite allowing four goals in the outing.

With the loss and Auggies sweep of Saint Mary's, the Pipers fall to second place in the MIAC standings heading into playoffs. The Pipers will get a first round bye, before they take on Saint Benedict in the semi finals on Saturday, February 28th at home at TRIA Rink at 3 PM.
