MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Hamline Pipers (16-3-1, 10-2-1) edged the Concordia-Moorhead (8-12-0, 5-8-0), 4-3, at Moorhead, rallying from a two-goal deficit with a three-goal surge in the third period. Hamline's power-play goal proved pivotal in securing the victory.
Hamline opened the game with early offensive efforts, including shots from
Abigail Chamernick and
Ellie Newpower, but Concordia-Moorhead struck first when Taylor Severson scored at 18:26, assisted by Anna Nelson and Madilyn Skogman. Despite the Pipers' attempts to equalize, including a power play opportunity, they were met with consistent saves from Abby Huselid. Concordia-Moorhead extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Jaclyn Lloyd at 6:49, aided by Keira Hauskins and Taylyn Cope. The Pipers continued to press offensively, generating multiple shot opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net. The period concluded with Hamline trailing 2-0, as they transitioned into a power play with just seconds remaining.
The second period began with Hamline winning the faceoff, setting the stage for continued offensive efforts. Despite numerous attempts, including shots from Grace Delmonico and
Annabel Mehta, the team was unable to break through Concordia-M'head's defense, with Abby Huselid making key saves. Hamline maintained pressure during two power plays, highlighted by several attempts from
Abigail Chamernick, but the Concordia-M'head defense held firm. The period was marked by blocked shots and missed opportunities from both teams, maintaining a scoreless tie as the period ended.
Hamline began the third period by capitalizing on a power play opportunity.
Ashlyn Abrahamson scored at 10:24 with an assist from
Kaiya Sandy, cutting the deficit by one. Shortly thereafter,
Brooke Klemz found the net at even strength, assisted by
Averie Martin, putting the two teams even at 2-2. Concordia-M'head responded with a power-play goal by Abbey Reule, taking the lead once again at 3–2. However, the Pipers quickly tied it up as
Nina Thorson scored at 1:55, with Martin providing another assist. The period concluded with the teams tied 3–3 after sustained pressure from both sides.
Iyla Ryskamp secured an overtime victory for Hamline with an unassisted goal at 4:03, just 57 seconds into the period. The decisive play came after a faceoff win over Concordia-M'head's Morgan Sauvageau. Hamline ended the contest with a 4–3 win.
Ryskamp scored the game-winning goal and recorded a 66 percent faceoff win rate. Abrahamson added a power-play goal and finished with seven shots on goal. Martin contributed two assists, ending with a +2 rating. In net,
Kendra Nordick made 28 saves while allowing three goals.
The Pipers will finish their series against the Cobbers in Moorhead, with game two scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at 2 PM.
