Pipers Dominate Concordia With 9-1 Victory

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Hamline University ice hockey team (17-3-1, 11-2-1) defeated Concordia College, Moorhead (8-13-0, 5-9-0), 9-1, on Saturday at Concordia's home ice. Hamline's offensive performance was highlighted by scoring four goals in the third period, securing a decisive victory.

The Pipers initiated the first period with early offensive pressure, winning the initial faceoff and quickly putting Concordia's defense to the test. Annabel Mehta capitalized on this momentum, scoring the opening goal at 17:46 with assists from Annika Lindgren and Abigail Chamernick, putting Hamline ahead. Continuing to press, the Pipers extended their lead with another goal at 5:21, this time from Nina Thorson, assisted by Kaiya Sandy and Averie Martin. The team maintained strong defensive play throughout, preventing any Concordia goals. The period concluded with Hamline holding a 2–0 advantage.

Concordia quickly cut the deficit early in the second period with Taylyn Cope finding the net just 14 seconds in. However, Hamline responded promptly when Mehta scored an even-strength goal, assisted by Chamernick, to regain the two goal lead. A series of penalties added intensity, but neither team capitalized on their respective power plays. Hamline extended their advantage as Ashlyn Abrahamson scored unassisted, followed by Ellie Newpower adding another goal with assists from Sandy and Thorson. Despite pressure from Concordia, the Pipers maintained defensive discipline, blocking several shots. The period concluded with Hamline leading 5–1, having scored three times during the frame, bolstering their position in the game.

Sandy opened the scoring at 13:28 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Thorson, further extending Hamline's lead.
