TUCSON, Ariz. — Hamline fell to Wheaton (Ill.) in a narrow 1-0 decision on Tuesday at the Kino Sports Complex. Hamline's pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts, but the team managed just three hits in the loss.
In a tightly contested matchup, Hamline faced Wheaton (Ill.) in Tucson. The game remained scoreless through the first seven innings, with both teams missing opportunities to capitalize on base runners.
Wheaton broke the deadlock in the top of the eighth inning. Tyler Burr walked and later stole second base, putting himself in scoring position. Jack Gill delivered a crucial RBI single, allowing Burr to score and giving Wheaton a 1-0 lead. Hamline's defense then executed a double play to end the inning.
