Pipers Split With Cal Lutheran On Second Day Of Spring Trip

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Hamline (1-8) fell to Cal Lutheran (4-9) with a final score of 8-1 on Wednesday at Hutton Field. Despite the loss, Hamline's offense managed five hits, with Brennan Reid contributing with a run scored in the fourth inning.
Cal Lutheran capitalized early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Mia Reveles homered, and Sofia Aviles reached on an error, allowing two unearned runs to score. Brooke Strahm's single to left center brought the fourth run, making it 4-0 in favor of Cal Lutheran after the first inning.
In the second inning, Cal Lutheran extended its lead by two more runs. Olivia Oergel doubled, and a subsequent error allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate. The score was 6-0 at the end of the second inning.
Cal Lutheran continued to apply pressure in the third inning, adding two runs. Kylen Mingus doubled and was driven home by Strahm on a fielder's choice. Reveles later singled, bringing in Oergel for the eighth run. The score stood at 8-0 after three innings.
Hamline responded in the fourth inning. Josephine Cariveau singled and later advanced to third. Natalynn Lundeen scored Hamline's sole run of the game on a bases-loaded walk by Julia Sina. The inning concluded with Cal Lutheran leading 8-1.
The game remained scoreless through the remaining innings, with neither team adding to the scoreboard. The final score was Cal Lutheran 8, Hamline 1.
Lundeen made her presence felt by scoring a run and collecting a hit, contributing to the team's overall offensive efforts. Cariveau demonstrated her defensive capabilities by recording three assists from the shortstop position, showcasing her reliability in the field. Reid added a hit and a stolen base, playing a key role in maintaining the team's momentum. Montana Miller provided a solid performance on the mound, pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowing only three hits, effectively containing the opposing offense.
Allison Boynton pitched 2 1/3 innings, facing 19 batters while allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs. She walked 2 batters and threw 62 pitches, 32 of which were strikes, resulting in a WHIP of 5.00. GAME 2

Hamline (2-8) secured a narrow 7-6 victory over California Lutheran University (4-10) on Wednesday at Hutton Field. The Pipers' offense was highlighted by a four-run third inning, which proved crucial in fending off Cal Lutheran's five-run rally in the same frame.

Hamline defeated Cal Lutheran 7-6 in a tense matchup. The third inning saw significant action as Sophie Schwartz-Bannon's single and subsequent advancement on a wild pitch set the stage. Brennan Reid's bunt single scored Schwartz-Bannon, and Josephine Cariveau reached on an error that allowed Elena Martinez to score. Reid scored on a wild pitch, and Cariveau scored on a groundout, making it 4-0 for the Pipers. Cal Lutheran responded with five runs in their half, taking a 5-4 lead after three innings.

In the fifth, Maddie Johnson's triple to right center drove in two runs, putting Hamline ahead 6-5. Cal Lutheran tied it at 6-6 in their half of the inning with an RBI single. The sixth inning remained scoreless for both teams.

In the seventh inning, Cariveau doubled and later scored on an error, giving the Pipers a 7-6 lead, which they maintained through the final half-inning.

Final score: Hamline 7, Cal Lutheran 6.

Josephine Cariveau led the Pipers with three runs scored and three hits, including a double. Reid contributed significantly with two hits, one run scored, and one RBI, while also adding four assists in the field. Johnson made an impact with a triple that brought in two RBIs.
