Pipers Split Day With Carthage and CMS

GAME 1

TUCSON, Ariz. — Hamline secured a decisive 17–6 victory over Carthage on Friday at the Kino Sports Complex. The Pipers' offense was highlighted by scoring in six different innings, including a dominant seven-run ninth inning, while Carthage committed four errors.

In the first inning, Ryan Burley singled and later scored on an RBI single by Maddex Van Slooten, putting Hamline on the board with one run. Carthage responded with a two-run homer by Zander Tubbs, leading 2–1 after one inning.

The third inning saw Owen Hodson hit by a pitch and steal second before being driven in by Alex Hokenson's RBI double. Bentley Casey contributed an RBI single, leveling the score at 3–3 by the end of the inning.

Carthage regained the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs, including a solo home run by Michael Ossenfort, to make it 6–3.

Hamline closed the gap in the sixth inning when Burley delivered a two-RBI single, bringing the score to 6–5.

In the seventh, the Pipers capitalized on an error and a hit-by-pitch to score two runs, overtaking Carthage with a 7–6 advantage.

Hamline extended its lead in the eighth, scoring three runs on a series of walks and hit batters, pushing the score to 10–6.

The ninth inning was pivotal as Hamline exploded for seven runs. Hodson's double and Jack Rheineck's RBI single ignited the inning, while Kyle Vanek's two-RBI double and Kaleb Corcoran's RBI off an error helped seal the victory. The Pipers concluded the game with a final score of 17–6 over Carthage.

Hodson contributed significantly with three runs, two doubles, and two RBIs. Hokenson added four runs, a double, and an RBI, reaching base three times after being hit by pitches. Burley recorded two hits and drove in two runs while also stealing a base. Van Slooten delivered two hits and two RBIs, helping to drive the offensive performance.

Ben McCrady started the game for Hamline, pitching 3 innings and allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits, including 2 home runs. He faced 22 batters, striking out 1 and walking 2, with a WHIP of 4.00. Sabastian Teague relieved McCrady, contributing 2 scoreless innings while giving up 2 hits and issuing 1 walk. He managed to pick off a runner and recorded a WHIP of 1.50. Lucas Mork closed the game with 4 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 3, maintaining a WHIP of 1.00.

GAME 2

Hamline was defeated by Claremont-M-S with a final score of 14-1 on Friday at the Kino Sports Complex. Despite the loss, the Pipers managed six hits, with Jack Rheineck driving in the team's sole run in the seventh inning.

Hamline faced Claremont-M-S in a challenging matchup. In the first inning, Owen Hodson singled to center field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Despite Hodson's efforts, Hamline did not score, while Claremont-M-S took an early lead with an RBI single that brought Alex Henderson home. Claremont-M-S led 1-0 after the first inning.

In the third inning, the Pipers had a burst of hits with Hodson, Rheineck, and Eli Gilbertson each singling. However, the team was unable to convert these opportunities into runs. Claremont-M-S extended its lead with two runs, including an RBI double by Henderson. By the end of the third, Claremont-M-S was ahead 3-0.

The fourth inning saw Claremont-M-S increase its lead significantly with four runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Henderson. This inning ended with Claremont-M-S leading 7-0.

In the fifth, Claremont-M-S capitalized on a series of miscues and a three-run homer by Bryce Didrickson, adding five runs to its tally. The scoreboard showed Claremont-M-S up 12-0 through five innings.

Claremont-M-S added two more runs in the sixth inning, widening the gap to 14-0.

Hamline managed to get on the board in the seventh inning when Dane Damson doubled, driving in Kyle Vanek. However, this lone run concluded the scoring for the Pipers. The game ended with Claremont-M-S securing a decisive 14-1 victory over Hamline.

Owen Hodson collected two hits and stole a base in his appearance. Eli Gilbertson added to the offense with one hit and a walk while also stealing a base. Kyle Vanek contributed a run and a hit, demonstrating his ability to reach base. Dane Damson recorded a double and an RBI, providing a key hit in the lineup.

Carter Hoff started the game for Hamline, pitching 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits, and striking out 3 batters. Ryan Burley contributed 2/3 of an inning, during which he gave up 4 earned runs on 4 hits, including 3 doubles, and struck out 1. Jacob Hasapopoulos faced difficulty in his 1 1/3 innings, surrendering 5 earned runs on 3 hits, including a home run. Tony Tantillo closed with 1 inning, allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits, striking out 2, and issuing 2 walks.
