Pipers Can't Hold Off Mustangs Hot Batting in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. — Hamline (5-5) suffered a decisive 14-1 loss to Southwest Minnesota (10-5) on Sunday at Kino Sports Complex. The Pipers managed to score their lone run in the fourth inning, while Southwest Minnesota capitalized on 12 hits, including a home run, to secure the victory.

Southwest Minnesota took an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs. Behn's RBI single brought home Lampert, and RBI singles from Wheeler and Hammrich extended the lead to 3-0.

In the second inning, Southwest Minnesota added five more runs. Lampert tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly. Hammrich delivered a three-run homer, increasing the lead to 8-0.

Southwest Minnesota's offense continued in the third inning, scoring four runs. A ground-rule double by Cortez scored Lampert, and a wild pitch allowed Cortez to score. Wheeler's two-RBI double made it 12-0.

Hamline got on the board in the fourth inning. Alex Hokenson singled and scored on a single by Jacob Barmore, bringing the score to 12-1. Southwest Minnesota responded with another run in the bottom of the fourth, leading 13-1.

In the fifth inning, Southwest Minnesota scored without a hit as Berreth scored on a sacrifice fly following a fielder's choice, making it 14-1.

Both teams were scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings. The final score was Southwest Minnesota 14, Hamline 1.

Alex Hokenson recorded one hit and scored a run, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Barmore added an RBI with one hit, making an impact with two outs. Ryan Burley contributed defensively with an assist and was part of a successful double play. Ben McCrady pitched an inning, striking out two batters while allowing three earned runs.
