Pipers Battle Hard But Can't Catch High Pressure Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Hamline fell to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 21–7 on Wednesday, as the home team maintained its undefeated conference record. Despite the loss, the Pipers recorded a player-up goal in the third quarter.

The game commenced with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls taking an early lead as Elizabeth Clough scored at 13:07, assisted by Kinlee Knutson. Avery Watzke followed with another goal for the home team at 12:01, extending its advantage. The Pipers responded when Lauren Moorhouse found the net at 09:57, assisted by Aoi Suzuki. However, the home team continued its scoring momentum with goals from Samantha Hayek and Natasha Berthiaume, widening the gap to 4–1. Emma Collins scored for the Pipers at 06:00, narrowing the deficit to 4–2. The quarter concluded with Elizabeth Clough completing a hat trick and Murphi Specht adding another, leaving the home team ahead 7–2 at the end of the first quarter.

Wis.-River Falls dominated the second quarter, scoring six goals to extend its lead. Samantha Hayek opened the scoring at 14:22 and later added two more goals, including a player-up free position shot with just two seconds remaining. Avery Watzke contributed with a goal and an assist during this stretch. The Pipers struggled to maintain possession but found the net through Reagan Zywicki at 1:28. Despite multiple caused turnovers, the Pipers' defense managed some crucial stops, but Wis.-River Falls capitalized on their opportunities to lead 13–3 by the end of the quarter.

Emma Collins opened the third quarter scoring for the Pipers with a goal at 12:41, assisted by Kayli Starkey. The home team responded with a goal from Brooke Glumack at 8:55, assisted by Elizabeth Clough. Emma Halweg scored twice for the Pipers, including a player-up goal at 6:13 assisted by Collins, and a free position goal at 1:20. Wis.-River Falls added goals by Murphi Specht and Clough, closing the quarter with a 16–7 lead.

Wis.-River Falls dominated the fourth quarter, starting with Molly Pierce scoring at 14:22. Additional goals from Murphi Specht at 12:32, Natasha Berthiaume at 11:01, and Avery Watzke, assisted by Specht, at 9:35 extended its lead significantly. Despite defensive efforts from the Pipers, including a save by Lola Brouwer at 5:24, Wis.-River Falls maintained pressure. Samantha Hayek capped the quarter with a goal at 0:05, sealing the 21–7 victory.
