WINONA, Minn. — Hamline fell to Saint Mary's University (Minn.) in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday, losing each contest by a score of 9–0. In the first game, the Pipers recorded three hits and two walks, while in the second game, they managed just one hit over five innings.
Saint Mary's (30–2, 16–0) took control early in both games. In the first inning of game 1, Peyton Berg doubled to right field, driving in Makayla Steffes, followed by Megan McGinnis' single that brought Berg home, putting the Pipers behind 2–0. Game 2 saw Saint Mary's lead off with Erin Parker reaching on a throwing error, later scoring on a two-run home run by Makayla Steffes, concluding the opening inning with a 2–0 advantage.
The third inning was pivotal for both games. In the first game, Saint Mary's extended its lead with a three-run homer from Berg, followed by a two-run homer from Naleyah Bork, and a solo home run from Emily Bonk, pushing the score to 8–0. In the second game, Saint Mary's further increased their lead with Alexandra Gerber scoring on a single by Berg, and pinch runner Hayden Hawkins scoring on a single by Samya Brown, making it 6–0.
In the fourth inning of game 1, Saint Mary's added to their tally when Ariel Herrera, a pinch runner, scored on an error by Hamline's pitcher, bringing the score to 9–0. Game 2 saw Brianna Nusbaum reaching base and scoring on a wild pitch, further increasing the lead to 7–0.
The fifth inning sealed the fate for both games, with Saint Mary's hitting a two-run homer by Breonna Methner in game 2, resulting in the final score of 9–0.
