ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (4-13, 1-6 MIAC) fell to Macalester College (9-9, 3-4 MIAC) with a final score of 2-5 on Wednesday at the Hayden Tennis Courts. The Pipers secured both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches but managed only one singles victory at the No. 4 position.
Hamline captured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Wyatt Crowell and
Brendon Sebring secured a win at No. 1 doubles, edging Jordan Doi and Charles Flaman 7-6(5).
Matthew George and
Max Gulliford followed up with a 6-4 victory over Derek Chen and Kangyu Li at No. 2 doubles. Macalester picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, where Beckett Annes and Zach Dajani defeated
Wesley Saunders and
Sam Siegel 6-2.
In singles play, Macalester quickly turned the tide. Flaman defeated George 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to even the match. Doi then put Macalester ahead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Crowell at No. 1 singles. Li extended Macalester's lead by defeating Sebring 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Hamline's Gulliford was the lone singles winner, pulling out a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Dajani at No. 4 singles. However, Macalester clinched the match as Annes overcame
Liam Smith 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 5 singles. The final point came with Ezra Mahoney's 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over
Jonah Wendt at No. 6 singles, finalizing Macalester's 5-2 victory.
