MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Hamline (5-14) narrowly fell to St. Olaf (10-8) 4-3 on Saturday. Hamline secured singles victories at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 positions, but St. Olaf clinched the match by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Hamline lost the doubles point after St. Olaf secured victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Bogdan Vizoli and Lou Smith defeated
Wyatt Crowell and
Brendon Sebring at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, while Mason Ramirez and Daniel Meunier triumphed over
Sam Siegel and
Liam Smith at No. 3 doubles, 6-4. Hamline's
Matthew George and
Max Gulliford managed a win at No. 2 doubles, overcoming Marjan Veldic and Madden Vanderwerf in a tiebreak, 7-6(6), but it was not enough to claim the doubles point.
In singles play,
Wyatt Crowell delivered a win for the Pipers at No. 1 singles, defeating Bogdan Vizoli with a score of 6-2, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).
Brendon Sebring added another point for Hamline at No. 3 singles by overcoming Marjan Veldic, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8). However, St. Olaf responded with Lou Smith's straight-set victory over
Matthew George, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, and Jacob Schultz's 6-2, 6-2 win against
Wesley Saunders at No. 5 singles.
At No. 6 singles,
Jonah Wendt clinched a singles victory for Hamline by defeating Mason Ramirez, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5). Meanwhile, at No. 4 singles,
Max Gulliford fell to Madden Vanderwerf in a closely contested match, 4-6, 7-6(2), 1-0 (10-8). With a final dual score of 4-3, St. Olaf emerged victorious in the matchup.
