SAINT PAUL, Minn. --- Hamline University Athletics has announced the appointment of George Hubbard '23 as Interim Head Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Coach.

Hubbard, a former standout swimmer for the Pipers, has served as an assistant coach with the Hamline swimming and diving program since 2023. In that role, he has helped develop and implement training plans, provided individualized instruction to student-athletes and contributed to the program's recruiting efforts. He also previously served as an assistant coach with Edina Swim Club. 

A 2023 Hamline graduate, Hubbard enjoyed an accomplished four-year career for the Pipers. As a first-year, he set school records in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle at the 2020 MIAC Championships. As a senior in 2022-23, he finished second in both the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle at the MIAC Championships while also placing fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Hubbard was a three-time MIAC All-Conference honoree, four-time Hamline Swimming and Diving MVP and the program's Rookie of the Year. He was also twice named MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week during his senior season and received Hamline's Steve Lindgren Award for Athletic Excellence in 2023.

As an alumni, former athlete, and experienced coach, I hope to use my passion and expertise to build on our incredible team culture and expand the trend of growth within the program," stated Hubbard,  "It's an honor to give back to Hamline and provide greater continuity and the tools of success to our student-athletes. A native of Iowa and graduate of MOC-Floyd Valley High School, Hubbard earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Hamline in 2023.
