EJ Shelby will embark on his third overall season with the Hamline University football coaching staff in 2024, and second as the offensive coordinator. This is Shelby's second stint with the Pipers after he served as the team's wide receivers coach in 2018.

Shelby arrived to the Pipers following one season at Millikin, where he worked with the wide receivers and tight ends while serving as the academic success coordinator. 

The Birmingham, Alabama native came to Millikin after spending the 2021 season as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Kentucky Christian University. 

Shelby began his coaching career at Concordia University St. Paul in 2015 as a volunteer assistant coach before being promoted to the safeties coach in the spring of 2016. He spent the 2016 season as the wide receivers coach at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin before returning to Minnesota to serve as the quality control/wide receivers coach at St. Olaf University. Shelby spent one year at Hamline coaching the wide receivers, then returned to Concordia St. Paul for his second stint with the program. 

After serving in the United States Air Force, Shelby played junior college football and baseball at College of the Desert and he completed his playing career at Taylor University in Upland, Ind. while earning his degree in exercise science. He attended Arizona State while simultaneously continuing to grow his coaching profile, earning a degree in Health Informatics.Â
