Ed's background with Hamline goes back nearly four decades. He came to the school for the 1977-78 season after playing two years at Inver Hills CC. He settled in immediately as a starter, averaging nearly 14 points a game in senior season. That year, he was the team captain and MVP and Pipers' lone rep on the conference's postseason team.Â
He turned to coaching in high school where he has been very successful with 407 career wins. He has guided three different schools -- DeLaSalle, St. Bernard's and Simley -- to berths in the MSHSL boys' tournament. Only two other coaches have ever done that in MSHSL history. His 1997 Simley team defeated New Prague, 61-47, for the Class AAA championship.Â
He also has 10 years college coaching experience. This is his second tour of duty working with HU head coach Jim Hayes. He served as an assistant to Hayes during the 2013-14 season before rejoining the staff last season.Â
